NAI Carolantic Realty Chairman, Steve Stroud Named
2008 Realtor of the Year for the Triangle Region

RALEIGH NC March 12, 2009 – At the 2009 Triangle Commercial Association of Realtor’s Annual Frontier Awards, held this evening, Steve Stroud, SIOR, Chairman of NAI Carolantic Realty was named the 2008 Realtor of the Year in front of a crowd of over 100 professional brokers and guests. This is the highest honor given by the association and is based on high principles, faithfulness to laws and regulations of the Code of Ethics and furthering good real estate practice between other brokers and the public. They are recognized for their business accomplishments, service to clients, imaginative and creative advertising programs, land utilization, etc. Mr. Stroud thanked the audience and gave special recognition to his mother and father for instilling in him a strong work ethic.

By the very nature of their profession, realtors change the landscape of their environments, but only a special few are gifted with the vision and follow-through necessary to shape the physical and economic futures of their communities. At NAI Carolantic Realty, Steve Stroud exemplifies the best of the best. Mr. Stroud’s understanding of what is required today in order to succeed tomorrow has helped guide him throughout his career. Vision, hard work and integrity have made him one of the most highly regarded commercial real estate professionals in North Carolina.

In 1965, he hit the ground running by beginning his commercial real estate career brokering such high-profile projects as Highwoods Office Park, the Arbors Complex, One North Commerce Center, the Rex Drive Office Complex, the Crossroads Complex in Cary and the original assemblage of properties around the RDU Airport. In 1972, he founded NAI Carolantic Realty, Inc. But his commitment to hard work hasn’t been limited to his commercial enterprises. He has also given untold hours of his life to civic endeavors that literally change the face of the region. A close friend, now retired attorney Charles Fulton, has been quoted as saying that “What makes him unique is his unwavering effort to give back to the community.”

And “give back” he certainly has. It would be safe to say that Steve Stroud sets a standard for giving back and making a difference.

For example, in 1987 the NC Railroad Company profited from Mr. Stroud’s stewardship when he was able to accomplish what others had failed to accomplish during the preceding hundred years. As its President, he succeeded in merging the Railroad’s two ownership factions – a merger that benefited the whole of NC.

Not limiting his attention to civic needs, he is a strong proponent for excellence in education. An avid supporter of NC State University, he was a founding member of the Board of Advisors for the University’s College of Management, which has now become one of the top ranked business schools in the nation. He has also been a leading supporter of the NC State University sports program and has served the Wolfpack Club in many capacities, including a term as its president.

Perhaps Mr. Stroud’s greatest challenge began in1985 when he was asked to be Chairman of the Coliseum Committee and charged with determining the feasibility of a major events facility in Raleigh. He was one of the few people involved in the initial groundwork who fully believed in the importance of the concept. However, as Chairman of the Centennial Authority created by Legislative mandate to oversee the arena project, he spent twelve years and thousands of hours of his personal time fighting to overcome every conceivable complication and objection along the way. Now thanks in great part to his perseverance and vision, the completed sports and entertainment arena, known as the RBC Center, rises handsomely above the West Raleigh landscape as what has been described as the new, premier source of entertainment in the Southeast.

Time and again, Mr. Stroud has been called to give back to our community and our state. Few people outside the political arena have used their vision and integrity to impact and change the landscape of North Carolina in as many meaningful and innovative ways as has Steve Stroud.
